Preservation of the Species
 “When the Stars Appear to be Out of Alignment”

                    May 15, 2009 was just another day in the life of Brian Bitterman, so he thought! What started as a typical day suddenly transformed into a day that started an unusual transformation in his life. It was 6:00am when Brian started his normal workday first stopping at a local convenience store that always opens by 6:ooam. Well, the store was not open so Brian hung around for the next 15 minutes waiting for it to open. After waiting with no signs of the store opening Brian headed off to get some gas at the local Mobil Station down Rt. 91 South which was the usual route he had taken for the past ten years without any problems.
               Prior to exiting the highway to get some gas and cigarettes, a car suddenly cut right in front of Brian almost causing a serious accident! Brian pulled into the gas station and proceeded to try to pump some gas. The pumps were out of commission for whatever reason and Brian had forgotten his wallet at home.  He then proceeded onward to work in Springfield, Massachusetts where he had been employed for the past ten years. Upon entering, the outskirts of Springfield the highway in front of him became very dark. Not sure what was going on Brian started to slow down since he was going about 80mph. The dark area turned out to be a tree that had fallen across the highway seconds before. It was too late for Brian to stop so he proceeded to avoid the tree as well as he could.  The car ran over mainly branches and limbs. Making a great deal of noise and possible damage to the car, Brian continued on his way to work not knowing what might happen next!
             Brian arrived at work about 6:30am the usual time. He got out of the car, checked for damage, preceded into the office and settled in for the day. Brian’s office was cubicle, yes Brian was a Cubicle boy. After calming down, Brian reflected on the morning’s events as they were unusual and out of the ordinary! What had happened to cause or create this chain of events that certainly should have had a major impact on Brian’s life? The only possible explanation that Brian could come up with was that the lunar cycle had given us a full moon.
              Brian then reflected on the universe and all the unknown happenings that could or would be caused by a full moon, sun and the stars in the heavens. By the end of the day, Brian was mentally weary and without any answers as to the reasoning or logic that could have created or caused this unparalleled morning’s chain of events. Brian knew that it was an unnatural alignment of whatever had occurred and caused these events to occur but had no clue of what it actually was! Brian felt that this incidence had a direct bearing with and connected with the movement of the moon, sun or the stars in the universe in some form or other.
               Brian finished his day at work and left at 4:00pm, which once again was his usual time. Such a well-regimented life style Brian had been living for the past ten years. Set time to rise and shine, pack lunch for the day, drive to work for 6:30am, have a couple of breaks, finish the day by 4:00pm and travel home taking the same route. A daily routine that Brian was so use to that it was beginning to get quite boring!
               That particular day, because of the morning’s events caused much soul searching for Brian and had opened a new venue into the meaning of life in general for Brian. He had become a true cubicle boy and did not even realize it!   Brian then realized for the first time in many years that a change was in the process of starting. For better or worse, Brian would follow his newfound direction in life!
               Brian lived in a small one bedroom apartment in the town of Scotland, Connecticut. He had a lot of friends, acquaintances, girlfriends but not much family. No true ties that would prevent him from starting his newfound venue in life whatever it was to be?
                The next day Brian gave his two-week notice informing the Company that he would be departing. Destination unknown! Brian had been making good money, saving the bulk of it and investing the remainder. His living expenses were low, no debt, money in the bank and his wallet when he did not forget it. Brian ready for the beginning of the next phase of his life!
                What to do and where to go was the next question he faced? Brian consulted his friends and family but the consensus was that he had lost his mind leaving all the security that he had acquired over the years. Brian listened to them, but knew in his heart that because of the other day’s events it truly was time for a change. 
                Brian was on his own! Frightened, but holding a steady course Brian knew what he had to do to begin his journey into uncharted waters! Excitement and anticipation started to overwhelm him. Over the next two weeks Brian gave notice to his landlord, paid bills, notified utilities, organized finances, packed and was ready to begin the journey of a lifetime. Destination still unknown!   Sunday morning 6:00am Brian headed out the door to an awaiting cab. His pack strung around his back, wearing his favorite outfit and strutting his stuff. Brian was 6’1” tall, 185 pounds, light brown hair, blue eyes and a muscular body for a former cubicle boy. Brian had renewed his passport in light of the events that were happening overseas if he decided that would be his first destination.
                The cab was bringing Brian to the airport a few cities away. The cabbie asked Brian where he was headed and Brian responded saying, “Don’t Have a Clue Mister”.
               Brian had a very high energy level that he learned how to control over the years. His level of hyperactivity caused him many inconveniences throughout his early childhood and young adult life! He had learned to control it but at times thought, he was losing his mind because of it.
                Earlier in his life while playing video games the machine he was playing would take over and start playing the game by itself because of the energy level that Brian was outwardly projecting. He found that very peculiar but accepted it because of his condition. While driving down the highway after getting his license the highway lights would go out and come back on after he had passed them.
                Once again, Brian accepted this fact as being part of his condition. An overabundance of energy and having it released in very peculiar ways! Brian once again accepted all these odd occurrences as part of his life. It had been happening since early childhood and has continued ever since. Brian knew that he was a bit peculiar as a person but was able to hide most of these incidences from his family, friends, girlfriends, co-workers and in general from everyone. He had accepted who he was, learned to hold his head high and have a lot of inner self-confidence.
                Brian had recently turned 35 years old, in a cab heading to the airport and destination still unknown!
   Brian’s parents had both lived in the house that Brian grew up in and had no plans of leaving. He mother was a retired schoolteacher and his father was a Lawyer working for the Town of Scotland. Both of them had been at their jobs for about the past 35 years. Brien was born on December 5, 1974 under the Sagittarian sign. A jack-of-all-trades but master of none! He had had many jobs but they all fairly much center on the construction industry. The position that he was leaving was that of a project supervisor/estimator. A job that he was well diversified in from many years of practical and on site experience starting at around 18 years old.
    His parents never mentioned that fact to Brian that he was indeed hyperactive, full of anxiety and carrying an extremely high energy level. Brian knew it, dealt with it, lived his life with it, enjoyed it and knew how to deal with it without any medication. Brian had one hidden secret that he did not share with anyone except a select chosen few! Probably the medication would have helped him or the reversal could have occurred “make him miserable, ecstatic or uncontrollable”.
   Brian had no brothers or sisters which was unfortunate for him seeing that it would had been nice to have a brother and a sister to confide in, but such is life!
   Brian, not knowing how to release his high energy level became very complacent at times and learned how to live with it at times feeling like he would explode.
    Where to the cabby asked Brian after what seemed hours of reflecting? The cabby was referring to what airport terminal Brian wanted to be dropped of at. Does not matter Brian responded, have not made any reservations as of yet! The cabby dropped Brian of at the departure area, Brian paid the cabby. The cabby wished Brian good fortune and drove off.
    Brian walked into the terminal and just looked around to gain his bearings prior to making his first important decision “where to go and what to do”. As Brian was looking at the departure schedule, he noticed a beautiful young woman about the same age carrying a backpack about her shoulder. At a bout the same time, she noticed Brian. They exchanged glances and smiled at one another. They both looked confused as to what they were trying to accomplish at the terminal. Brian approached her and started idol conversation and she joined right in. It seemed that they immediately hit it off. Brian asked her what she was doing and where she was headed? The young woman replied that she would truly like to go to San Francisco but did not have enough money for the trip. How it came to being, Brian was not quite sure but he wanted to go with flow of events as he had no immediate plans and was up for whatever was going to happen!
   The next thing Brian realized was that he had rented a car and they were off to California. A cross-country trip with a beautiful woman he had just met. It seemed like the right decision at the time and it would be a great adventure into the something that Brian had never done before. Where it would end, Brian did not have a clue? 
   Her name was Cassie, 5’6” tall, brown wavy hair and light brown eyes, 34 years old and seemed to have her act together as Brian fantasized! Conversation abounded between the two of them as if it was like the were always together. They were traveling westward towards the winding streets of San Francisco, California.
    Brian reflected on that day’s events that had transformed his life. Trying to figure out what had happened and came up with the conclusion that the stars most definitely had to be out of alignment. A cubicle boy one day then transformed into a traveling man with a beautiful woman the next day heading to California!
   Brian and Cassie would alternate driving which helped them to be rested and arrive Midwest in a reasonable amount of time. They had been traveling for about three days while enjoying the sights and bonding with one another. Where the relationship was headed was still an unknown but it looked like it had potential Brian thought.
   For some reason or other, Brian was getting very anxious and an accelerated amount of energy was building up within him as if something was about to happen, as it had in past experiences!
   Brian and Cassie were the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. It was a convertible that had flipped over and a young woman was thrown from the car. She laid motionless a few feet away from the car that looked like it was about to explode at any moment. Brian walked over to the woman and just stared at her. Brian, at that time was about to explode himself from the build up anxiety and energy. He knelt over the woman and felt for a pulse and heartbeat, but there was none! Brian was shaking, was not sure what to do. He then felt very anxious and wanted to try to revive the woman, the energy level continued to grow and grow, as he was feeling helpless in how to help her if indeed she was dead or just unconscious.
    At that instant not knowing why, Brian put his hands together and rubbed them for about 3 minutes until the friction made it to hot to continue. He then put his hands one on each temple and held them firmly in place. There was still no movement with the woman. All of the energy and anxiety that Brian was experiencing then disappeared and Brian was calm once again! Cassie was standing by Brian’s side the whole time wondering what she could do? He bent down, whispered into the woman’s ear, and said,” We shall always be connected”.
   A police car arrived at the accident followed by an ambulance. The paramedic examined the woman and declared her dead! As the police, ambulance, Brian, and Cassie were looking at the woman, she regained her consciousness to the amazement of all parties. Cassie just stared at Brian in total amazement as if she had just witnessed a miracle!  The woman asked where the man was that had saved her, as she knew she had passed on. Who was that the man was who had revived me she asked when she arrived at the hospital? Her name was Arlene and she had been traveling home to New Mexico to visit her parents when the accident had happened. Brian and Cassie followed the police and filed a report testifying to what they had seen and any help that they had given to Arlene.
   After finishing all the paperwork and questioning, Brian and Cassie continued onward to San Francisco. Cassie was just staring at Brian without saying anything until she asked “what happened back at the scene of the accident, she was dead and then alive after you messaged her temples, up until then she was declared dead”. Brian responded, “I really don’t have a clue”. It was a miracle as far as Cassie was concerned and Brian was the cure!
   They continued driving without much conversation both reflecting on what had happened just a few hours ago. Brian’s anxiety and hyperness had left him back at the accident after rubbing Arlene’s temples but he felt weaker as if it his body was being drained of energy from his actions!
   After stopping for lunch and resting Brian started driving and the conversation centered around where and what there agenda would be when they arrived in San Francisco. Cassie replied she wanted to see the winding streets as was depicted in the series “The Streets of San Francisco”. Brian smiled and continued driving. No further mention of the incident that had happened!  Brian continued driving and the conversation centered on their newly found relationship and how it was progressing. They seemed very happy and comfortable with one another. No strained conversations and plenty of smiles and laughter.
   Three days of traveling and getting closer to San Francisco when Brian started getting very nervous again for no apparent reason! Cassie stared at Brian looking confused, as she was not use to these personality changes. Brian kept repeating “My Little Angel” when Cassie stated that it is time for her to drive! Cassie had no idea of where Brian’s head was going.
   After a while, Brian stated that they should pull off at the next exit. Repeating again My Little Angel! Cassie was perplexed but followed the plan. Once entering the exit, it appeared that Brian knew where to go as if he had been there before.
   Brian told Cassie to pull into the picnic area and park the car. Brian at that point was totally filled with anxiety, hyperness and all other related personal feeling that he had just experienced days prior.
   Cassie was not sure but she felt that they were going to experience another incident! Brian kept repeating “My Little Angel” as he exited the car and started walking over to the picnic grounds. As he approached the picnic grounds, he knew where he wanted to go. He approached a little girl in a wheelchair and said hello Lacy Donavan and how are you? Lacy looked at Brian and said hello Brian Bitterman and how are you? It appeared that for whatever reasoning they knew one another not by chance but because they were destined too.
   Lacy was about 8 years old, blond hair and blue eyes with a smile that would brighten the world. Brian did not know how or why she had become confined to a wheelchair but knew that he needed to help her. He introduced himself to her parents who were very polite considering that they did not know him from a hole in the wall. Brian stared at Lacy and said for her to trust him. Lacy looked at Brian and said that she did and I always will!
  Brian proceeded to rub his hands together with a vigorous fury until he could no longer continue. Cassie was trying to calm down the parents, as they had no idea of what was happening. At that time, Cassie approaches them and calmly tells them to watch that they are about to witness something very special!
  Brian then placed his hands on Lacy’s temples and held them in place for an extended period. Brian, then releases his hands from Lacy’s temples, bends down and whisperers into Lacy’s ear and say’s “My Little Angel” “We shall always be connected”. Brian smiles at Lacy and then collapses to the ground in a semi-unconsciousness state. Cassie was trying to calm down the parents, as they had no idea of what was happening.
   A police car arrived at the accident followed by an ambulance. Cassie startled and confused rushed over to Brian knelt by his side and messaged his forehead. Lacy’s parents stared at their daughter, Brian and Cassie in wonderment, as they had no clue as to what this event was all about! Lacy who was still confused herself asked how Brian was doing? Lacy’s parents huddled around their daughter and witnessed her moving both of her feet.
   Brian soon regained consciousness but was still very incoherent. Cassie helped him to his feet, headed towards the car, got him into the car and drove off. Not knowing how to explain this happening, she though it would be best to just go!
  Brian tells Cassie that he has been healing for some time, which started in his early childhood but has never told anyone other than the ones that have been healed. Brian then tells Cassie that he needed to remain inconspicuous his whole life as not to bring undo attention to himself regarding the matter! I hope that you can understand where my thinking has been and why I needed to protect others and myself if word had gotten out!
   First healing happened with friend climbing a tree fell about 10’ down to the ground and lands on his head! David was unconscious and had no pulse or heartbeat. Brian assumed that he was dead! Brian hears something or someone from a higher plane within his subconscious mind to rub his hands together and place them on his temples and he will be revived! Brian listens to his subconscious intuition, followed the instructions and David regained a heartbeat, pulse and started breathing as if nothing had happened! Cassie “since you are the first one aware of this gift that I have, I guess I will have to kill you! Cassie looked at him dumfounded but frightened! Brian smiled and replied just kidding. After a while, Brian looks at Cassie and asks how “My Little Angel” is? Cassie informs Brian that upon there sudden departure Lacy was beginning and able to move both her legs. Brian smiled and fell sound asleep.
    Cassie continued driving heading towards Colorado. Since they were in no rush Cassie decided to head toward Denver. A city that she had never been to and always wanted to see the mountains. They were about 4 hours from Denver and it was about 2 o’clock in the afternoon so she plotted the route and drove on.
   Cassie started reflecting on what she had experienced/witnessed since she had teamed up with Brian. She felt very comfortable with him but was confused about his healing powers and not sure what to make of it? She had experienced two possible miracles and witnessed both.
  Brian was weaker after each healing and she wondered how many more his could perform before he suffered dire consequences? She knew that it was important to Brian to help those that he was able to help without any concern for himself!
   Cassie did not know where their relationship was headed but in light of Brian’s gift, it was best for her to stay with him to help and aid Brian in any way that she could. Brian awoke a few hours later all rested up and ready to continue their trip westward.  Brian further explained his gift to Cassie but did not want his healing ability to be the center of their conversation or relationship. Cassie agreed and they gave each other a hug and a kiss.
  Cassie told Brian were they were heading and Brian thought that it was great since he also had never been to Denver. Once arriving in Denver, they got a nice room at a resort and were to stay there for the next two days. After checking out the sights and exploring the area, they decided to get some dinner at the local favorite pub. Brian ordered a steak, baked potato and salad. Cassie ordered seafood and a salad. Not too much of an exciting meal but the food was exceptional and service was great! They retired to their room, got comfortable, made love and fell asleep with smiles on both of their faces.
    Morning came and they saw the sunrise, got some breakfast, packed up some traveling items and started out for a day of sightseeing and walking around Denver.
   Brian called his parents and informed them that he was doing fine, staying healthy and in Denver, Colorado for the next few days. Cassie did the same and they both felt better that they had made the calls. Family was important to both of them but for now, the two of them were cruising to San Francisco and had no regrets! They checked out of the resort, packed their things, got into the car and started driving to their final destination San Francisco.
    Brian started out driving and Cassie was enjoying the scenery. About fours out of Colorado, they stopped at a convenience store to get some traveling food. Both Brian and Cassie walked into the store and started gathering their favorite items. Brian thought, what if the convenience store was open when it should had been back in Connecticut, where would he right now? After reflecting on the issue for some time Brian was glad that the earlier events that made him go into this transition in his life was a true blessing. Cassie before leaving the store picked up a gossip magazine similar to the National Enquirer to see what the latest gossip was!
   Brian started driving. Cassie was reading her magazine and getting quite ditty over some of the absurd articles. After a while, Cassie became very quite and was just staring at Brian. Brian looked at her and asked her what the problem was? Cassie informed him that there was an article written about Brian! It seems that the magazine interviewed Arlene and had written about her unexplained recovery after the accident that involved Brian and him placing his hands on her temples. Meanwhile, while this was becoming public, the same magazine also interviewed Lacy and her parents! Before continuing on, Cassie told Brian that Arlene had a full recovery and that Lacy regained full usage of her legs! That they were both indebted to the one who had performed these miracles if you could call them miracles! This is why I never wanted any publicity concerning any of this and what would transpire from it all! Brian looked distracted from the news and became very quite. Cassie looked at Brian and said, “What did you expect?” Brian having no answer looked at Cassie and said westward ho!
   They arrived at the California border that Monday and were set to continue on when Brian was pulled over for speeding. The officer asked Brian for his license and registration. Brian accommodated the officer and waited for the ticket. Instead of giving Brian a ticket, the officer asked him for his help! It seems that the officer had read about the miracles that Brian supposedly had performed and the officer’s wife was in need of some divine intervention! With his eyes filled with tears Officer Nate Ladue told Brian that his wife was bedridden and dying from ovarian cancer with no further treatments available that would be beneficial to her. It was just a matter of time before her death! Brian looked at the officer and said that he was not sure he would be of any help! Cassie glanced at Brian with a look of confusion. Brian looked at the officer and Cassie and responded with I will need some time before I made my decision. Brian knew that if he could help and if he indeed did help the act that he was to perform would drain him of all energy and more of his lifeline! After soul searching and taking a walk, Brian returned and said that if he could help he would! Brian told Officer Nate Ladue hat if he indeed did help his wife that no one else could be told of this incident!
   Officer Ladue told Brian and Cassie to follow him that he lived approximately 1hour away. Prior to leaving, he told Cassie and Officer Ladue that after he aided his wife he would need a place to rest and recuperate for as long as it took! Officer Ladue told Brian and Cassie that they could stay at his house for as long as they needed. Brian knew that this encounter would drain him of nearly everything if not his life.
  They proceeded onward following the officer. Brian looked at Cassie with disconcerting frowns as if he was frightened for the first time! Cassie took over the driving as to let Brian think and rest about what he just committed himself to. Cassie looked at Brian and said you know that you do not have to do this! Brian responded saying that his gift held him responsible to perform certain acts even if the outcome was not beneficial to him. The gift was given to him for the Preservation of the Species as Brian saw it.
   They arrived at the officer’s home and entered the house. After some reflection on the moment, Brian asked to see the officer’s wife. Brian was not feeling a high energy level or hyperness that he had felt with the prior incidences so he was not sure about the outcome. Brian walked into the bedroom where his wife Susan was. She looked frail, pale with no hope in her eyes! Her lifeline also was being put to the ultimate test! Brian asked Nate and Cassie to leave the room. Nate had never informed his wife of Brian and what he could be capable of! Brian sat on the corner of the bed and just stared at Susan with compassion reflecting outwardly from his eyes. Brian was starting to get tense and nervous for another reality had just entered Brian’s life. A simple trip with a new woman heading to California had turned into a fiasco without any doing on my part Brian thought!
   All I wanted to do was to remain inconspicuous with this gift and live a normal life if possible!
   Brian was starting to get anxious, tense and pissed off. He looked at Susan and said that if he could help her, he would. Susan responded by saying thank you and God bless you. I don’t know what your husband has said about me but just relax and we will see what we can do? At that point Brian slapped his hands together and rubbed them for a long period until they got to hot from the friction to continue. Brian then placed his hands on Susan’s temples as he had done in the past. He held them in place for an extended period. Susan had passed out by now, Brian released his hands bent down and whispered into Susan’s ear and said “We will always be connected”.
   Nate and Cassie re-entered the room at that time looked at Brian as he stood up and then collapsed to the floor as in the past. Brian woke up one week later with Susan serving him some breakfast. She had a full recovery, tears in her eyes, looking somewhat stronger and fit with a huge smile upon her face. She thanked Brian and gave him a big hug and kiss. Cassie entered the room and said “about time big boy” followed by a hug! Another week had passed when they said goodbye, packed their things and headed towards San Francisco, as they were two weeks prior. Cassie looked at Brian and said that you should be so proud of yourself for what you did for Susan! Brian never looked as strong as he did prior to the incidences from that point on. He kept it well hid from Cassie and all others! On ward ho Brian said to Cassie as he smiled and rubbed her fore head. They were about 3 hours from San Francisco.
   Cassie driving and talking about where they should go and what to do? Brian said that they should stop for something to eat and organize a game plan! They stopped at the next restaurant and settled in for a bit to eat after looking at the menu Brian decided to get a burger, fries and a milkshake, Cassie ordered a chef salad and an ice tea. Brian was staring at Cassie and asked her if they had ever met before the airport? I sensed that we have but I do not know where or when. I just have that feeling! Cassie looked at Brian and said she has no recollection of ever meeting Brian other than at the airport! He was not settled with that answer and wanted to further investigate the matter. Not that he did not trust Cassie but he needed to find out for himself! He just sensed that all things were not as they appeared! For whatever reasoning he had, Brian decided to give his old friend David a call. That evening when they settled into their hotel room, Brian went down to the lobby and gave his old comrade a call. How are you David? Hope all things are fine and life is treating you well! Remember when we were playing in the woods, you fell from the tree and I revived you? David responded by saying I most certainly do! For all practical reason you saved my life. Do you remember seeing anyone around the area when that happened? David responded by saying after he regained his consciousness that he vaguely remembers seeing someone behind a tree and they vanished as soon as I regained my facilities! Do not know if it was a girl or boy but the more I think about that I am sure that someone was there! Why do you ask? No particular reason other than curiosity! Well. David you take care and I will call you again in the near future and let you know what is going on in my life.
   Brian returned to the hotel room and greeted Cassie with a hug and a kiss. So where have you been Mr. Brian Bitterman? Just had to make a couple of personnel calls to my family, friends and accountant he responded nothing very important. Cassie looked at Brian with total confusion written all over her face! It was not by chance that you were at the airport when we first met was it! Cassie, I need you to be very honest with me if our relationship has a chance of any further development! With tears in her eyes, Cassie looked at Brian and told him that she was there when he revived his friend David. She had been visiting a friend after school that lived near where Brian and David were playing. She had decided to take a walk with her friend and ended up where the two of you were playing and climbing trees. Her friend had left and Cassie decided to hang out for a while longer. It was then that she saw David fall from the tree and witnessed Brian revive him! I knew from that time on you were a very special person and I had fallen in love with you by then and I love you today as I did when I first saw you. I never met you but thru friends and acquaintances. I was able to watch you grow and develop as if I truly did in fact grow up with you. I never had any intent of stalking you or bothering you, I was just in love you and the love grew and grew, as I got older. No Brian, it was not by chance that I met you at the airport! That is the truth Brian and I do not quite know what to say to you other than you have blessed my life with joy and love. Brian looked quite baffled at that point and was not sure how to respond. He looked at Cassie and asked is it me or the gift that I have you have fallen in love with? Cassie responded, I love you and the gift you have has always been part of you, so to answer your question I love you and every part of you that goes along with you!
  They finally arrived in San Francisco and decided to try to secure an apartment to start out with. Officer Ladue had given Brian and Cassie names of people that could help them find an apartment if they decided that was the venue they were to take.
  Brian soon realized that he was in love with Cassie.  They were a good match for one another. They ended up renting a waterfront condominium overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Brian and Cassie both called their parents to inform them that they would be staying in California for an undetermined period. They both got a job at a local waterfront restaurant serving seafood and ail.
  Their life together as a couple was taking shape in a very positive manner. One year had passed Brian and Cassie ware still madly in love.
  Brian would occasionally go down to the Children's Hospital and indiscreetly perform some healings never telling anyone other than Cassie. Brian would also lose more of this lifeline with each healing that he had performed and was getting noticeable weaker! Cassie would mention that to Brian but as usual, it centered on his belief that in fact it was for the Preservation of the Species, which served a more important function in life other than himself!
  The following year they were married after the arrival of their first child Sadie Anne Bitterman. They had a small wedding at a local Episcopal Church that they had occasionally attended that included his parents, Cassie parents and a few friends that flew in for the occasion.
  A few years had passed and Brian continued his healings at the same hospital in a discrete manner with only Cassie assisting him. Articles were written about the spontaneous healings but as of now, the hospital had no idea of Brian’s involvement!
  Cassie kept a detailed journal of the events surrounding Brian’s healings from that first day when she realized how special the gift was that Brian had been given. She felt that it was too important to go unnoticed and not become part of his legacy!
   Sadie had turned five years old and the Bitterman family was happy and content with their lives. Cassie could tell by looking at Brian that all the healings had taken more of his lifeline away from him and she was very concerned for his welfare!
   Brian’s last healing was that of a 10-year-old surfer who was hit on his head by his surfboard, became unconscious and stopped breathing. The paramedics could not revive him and declared him dead. Brian was observing the whole incident and became very angry that the boy had died. He let out a scream saying NO which could be hear miles away. He slapped his hands together as he did in the past rubbed them for an  incredibly long time, placed them on the boy’s temples and held them in place for an extended period of time. Bent down to the boy’s ear and whispered in his ear “We will always be connected”. After releasing his hands from the boy’s temples Brian stood up and collapsed to the sand in an unconscious state as in the past. Brian was brought to the hospital and never regained his consciousness. He passed on the following week.
   Brian always felt at peace when he was near the ocean. He was cremated and Cassie, Sadie, Brian’s parents and friends that they had made while living in San Francisco cast his ashes into the sea.
  The surfer did regained his heartbeat and pulse but was never able to thank Brian.  Cassie and Sadie remained in San Francisco. Cassie published the journal that she had written and dedicated it to all the children, adults and all others that Brian had healed. Cassie and Sadie continued with their lives. Her book that she had published became a best seller and the income it produced gave both of them financial security along with the investments that Brian had made.
   Sadie had a friend over to play that Saturday afternoon. While playing on the couch her friend was bouncing up and down fell, hit her head on the corner of the coffee table. She landed on the floor in an unconscious state. Cassie was not sure what to do so she attended the child to try to revive her. Realized that her condition needed immediate medical assistance! Cassie called 911 to get help. About that time, Sadie was witnessing the hold incident and walked over to her friend, slapped her hands together and rubbed them as her father had done. She continued rubbing her hands together for an extended amount of time. She then placed her hands on the temples of her friend Carol and held them in place for as long as she could before releasing them. She released her hands from Carol’s temples, bent over, whispered into her ear, and said, “We will always be connected”. Sadie then walked over to the couch sat down and fell asleep! By the time, that the paramedics had arrived, Carol had regained her consciousness and was alert. The paramedics examined Carol and other than a bump on the head, she was fine. They gave Carol a clean bill of health, filed a report and went on their way.
    Sadie sleep for a few hours, awoke walked over to her mother and gave her a big hug, kiss and said mother do not worry everything is going to be fine. After all, as my father would have said it is for The Preservation of the Species!
